Yuyama Yakushido Temple (Hirayama Yakushido Temple)
An onsen guardian Buddha worshipped by locals
Yakushi Nyorai, the Buddha of medicine and healing, is also a protector of onsen (hot spring) and revered by locals here at the Yuyama Yakushido Temple. The principal object of worship at the temple is the Yakushi Ruriko Nyorai created in 1717, but locals also pay a visit to the Thirteen Buddhas of Yuyama Yakushi. There is a stone lantern engraved with writings that mention visitors from Edo in 1829, suggesting that this temple has been well known throughout Japan for centuries.
